American Sports & Heroes:
During the 1920s, the sports world was gaining more and more popularity. The news made it more exciting, and women also started to really take part in sports. The new reputation of sports made it the topic of conversation. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald displays this in the character Jordan Baker. She is a golfer, and even upon seeing two girls again this their opening greeting is “‘Sorry you didn’t win’” (Fitzgerald 42). This shows how sports had gained popularity and how more and more people began to take interest and follow certain players. The enthusiasm for sports during the 1920s is depicted in Jordan Baker and her popularity in the golf world. |
