The lost generation was created as a result of the Great War. In some ways, it was a lost generation because of the many young men that died. In some cases, whole classes at universities did not return. A large number of men described to be in their prime of life were lost, and with them their talent and potential. However, the Lost Generation mostly describes the veteran writers during the time after the war. Writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hart Crane, Ernest Hemingway, and many other authors that were influenced by the war made up the Lost Generation. Their works were popular for their different views on society, and some of them are still famous today.
On the other hand, some argue that there wasn’t really a lost generation as a result of the war because the flu that followed after, as well as other illnesses in the past, that killed far more people than the war did. In fact, some censuses a few years after the war actually marked an increase in population. In all accounts though, the writers during this time were in fact influenced by that war, and were what made up the Lost Generation.
